Here at Window + Door Store Cape, we deal with a wide variety of timbers in order to meet our clients’ specific needs and wants. However, with climate change and the impact it is having on the environment, the supply of all timber needs to be addressed as it is becoming an ever-growing concern. Plantations are not being replenished as they should and hence are not completely sustainable. Species such as Okoume, Iroko and Sapele Mahogany, to name a few, fall into this category.
The deforestation of these plantations results in the emission of huge amounts of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. Illegal logging in places like West Africa also have a significant impact on the environment and a large percentage of primary forests have been lost to this illegal logging. Only a small percentage of these rainforests remain in West Africa, which are partly responsible for absorbing vast amounts of manmade greenhouse emissions, and these forests need to be protected.
At the Window + Door Store we are trying to take a step in the right direction to try and change this, which is why we highly recommend the use of Accoya® to our clients. Accoya® is a completely sustainable timber that is environmentally friendly. This dimensionally stable and highly durable timber has proven itself all over the world and has been put through extreme testing conditions in all environments to ensure its longevity. Kindly visit www.accoya.com/why-accoya/benefits for more information.
Using Accoya® in our joinery has proven to be a game changer over the past few years. Client come backs, with regards to swelling and twisting of doors and windows, are non-existent. Accoya® has proven it is able to withstand the harsh Cape weather conditions. With its 50 year above the ground and 25 year in the ground class 1 durability, there is simply no other timber that we recommend for this climate.
